     Walter E. Hallett was born on 5 December 1922 at Corona, NY. He was the son of Walter E Hallett and Frase Manwaring.1 Walter E. Hallett died on 23 April 2013 at Lake Placid, NY, at age 90; LAKE PLACID — Walter E. Hallett, age 90, of Lake Placid, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at his home in Lake Placid.

Mr. Hallett was born Dec. 5, 1922 in Corona, N.Y. He was the son of Walter E. and Grace (Manwaring) Hallett. He married Joan Butler June 20, 1950.

He Enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, Dec. 5, 1942 at Camp Upton, N.Y. Walter was a World War II Pilot, flying 33 missions in a P-47 Thunderbolt. He was part of the 64th Squadron (Scorpions) 57th Fighter Group in the 12th Air Force. He received an Air Medal for taking out a bridge with a 500 pound bomb in the Po Valley area of operations. He received his Honorable Discharge as Lieutenant.

He attended Michigan State College and had worked as superintendent for Karlson and Reed, Hicksville, N.Y. Mr. Hallett was owner and operator of the Maple Leaf Motel and Restaurant in Lake Placid, N.Y. from 1969 to 1981. In his retirement he worked at the Golden Arrow Motel. He was a member of the Lake Placid, Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan (Butler) Hallett of Lake Placid, N.Y; his children, Debbie Strack and her husband Francis of Lake Placid, N.Y., Walter Hallett and his wife Judy of Land O'Lakes, Fla., Joan Hallett Valentine and her husband Patrick of Lake Placid, N.Y., and Stacy Towers and her husband Brian of Huntington, Vt; 10 grandchildren, Timothy Hallett and his wife Amy of West Bend, Wis., Bryan Hallett of Stowe, Vt., Elizabeth Sweet and her husband Travis of Lake Placid, N.Y., Frank Strack and his wife April of Lake Placid, N.Y., Kelly Strack of Lake Placid, N.Y., Carolyn and Catherine Valentine of Lake Placid, N.Y., Gabrielle Towers and fianc^ Dillon LaForce of Hinesburg, Vt., and Gage and Riley Towers of Huntington, Vt. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Natalie and Benjamin Hallett of West Bend, Wis., Emerson and Bennett Sweet of Lake Placid, N.Y., and Harper Strack of Lake Placid, N.Y; and one nephew, Lester Poe and his wife Marlene of Hauppauge, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his parents, Walter E. Hallett and Grace (Manwaring) Hallett; and one sister, Anita Poe.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25th at North Elba Cemetery, Old Military Rd, Lake Placid, N.Y. with Pastor Jeff Gray officiating. American Legion, Post 326 Lake Placid, NY will provide Military Honors.

The M.B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, N.Y. is in charge of arrangements.
