Reverand James Keith, was born in Scotland in 1643. He came to America in 1662, was ordained 16 February 1664, and was the first settled minister of Bridgewater, Massachusettes. He preached his first sermon in a field by the river. He married, first Susannah Edson, daughter of Deacon Samuel, second, Mary Williams, widow of Thomas Williams of Taunton. He died in West Bridgewater 23 July1719, aged seventy-six.
