7. Robert Sterrett.(*)
Is said to have been born in Scotland, died in what was then Lancaster, now Dauphin County, Pa., in April, 1777. He is though to have been a son of Benjamin Sterrett, but up to the time of going to press no actual proof of this has been found by the author. The traditional story of his early life is that as a young boy, he fled with his parents and brothers and two sisters from Scotland to the north of Ireland, to evade those opposed to their religious beliefs. In Donegal County, Ireland, he married Mary Ramsey, said to have been born about 1707. Mary Sterrett, listed as 80 years of age, is given among the members of the Big Spring Church, in Cumberland Valley, in 1789. They emigrated to America about 1730, settling in what was then Chester, later Lancaster, and now Dauphin County, on Swatara Creek.

On the 4th day of Feb., 1755, the Proprietors of Pennsylvania granted him a warrant for one hundred and fifty acres of land in Lower Paxtang Township, now Dauphin County, upon which he resided until his death, April, 1777. He left a will which is of record in Lancaster County, Book C, page 46, wherein he names his wife, and the following children:

+14. i. William, said to have been three years old when his father
came to America; m. Jane Morrow.
+15. ii. James, m. Sarah Montgomery.
+16. iii. Agnes, m. Feb. 17, 1763, Samuel Hanna.
iv. Mary, m. March 27, 1764, John Bowman.
+17. v. David, b. 1737; d. Nov. 2, 1790; m. Rachel Innis.
+18. vi. Robert, m. at time his father made his will, as his father
specified that his wife was to live on Rob't's share of his
estate, if he died without children. Miss Martha Woods
of Carlisle, Pa., said that this Rob't went to Virginia.
There was a Robert Sterrett of Black Creek, Augusta
County, listed in Fee Books, as early as 1780. One record
says he married Catherine Allison, b. Jan. 31, 1752; d.
Feb. 16, 1818. A deed on file in Cumberland County,
Pa., records sale of 59 acres, under date of Feb. 5, 1793,
to Samuel Hanna, from Robert Sterrett and wife Martha,
for three pounds, lawful money of the State of Pennsylvania.

(*)In all lines of descent through Robert Sterrett 2, of Benjamin 1, it must
be remembered that no actual proof beyond family tradition has been found
that Robert was his son.

He was Ancestral File Numbe at X3N1-2P. He was born circa 1702 at Antrim, No. Ire.. He was the son of Benjamin Sterrett and Isabelle (?). Robert Sterrett married Mary Ramsey between 1712 and 1754. Robert Sterrett married Mary Ramsey in 1727 at Scotland. Robert Sterrett died in April 1777 at Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He died in April 1777 at Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
